As part of a malicious mail scam, numerous forged checks have been issued to individuals nationwide and potentially, internationally, purportedly from hmc Advertising, LLC. This is a fraud!

If you have received one of these checks, possibly accompanied by a letter from the “Federal Lottery Commission” (a fictitious entity), please alert authorities immediately (see below). Officials are requesting your help in stopping this deception and preventing additional fraudulent activity.

Here are the steps you should take:

1. Fax the letter and the check to the Stowe, Vermont Police Department, attn: Officer Bruce Merriam at 802-253-2584.
2. If possible, please include a cover note detailing:
   • - How the check was received (UPS, FED EX, or USPS)
   • - The dollar amount the check was made out for
   • - The date of the check
   • - The check number
3. Make a record of the following police report number and be sure to include it on all your correspondence: Stowe Police Department Report # 08ST03459.
