On May 15, 2010, the Hermes Creative Awards announced winners for the 2010 international awards competition for creative professionals involved in the concept, writing and design of traditional and emerging media. Hermes Creative Awards recognizes outstanding work in the industry while promoting the philanthropic nature of marketing and communication professionals. We, hmc2 Advertising and the Vermont Student Assistance, were among the winners in several categories.

Together, we won a Platinum Hermes for www.vsacroadmaps.org, a microsite (and widget) that parents and high school students can use to get tips on how to plan (and pay) for education beyond high school. We also won a Gold Hermes for our VSAC Voices Campaign, which was an integrated marketing effort designed to mobilize VSAC’s various constituents to ultimately influence Vermont’s congressional delegation. And, last but not least, we won Honorable Mention for www.vsacnews.org. We helped build this new site, but it really is the hard work of our VSAC partner, Irene Racz.

There were over 3,600 entries from throughout the United States and several other countries in the Hermes Creative Awards 2010 competition. Entries came from corporate marketing and communication departments, advertising agencies, PR firms, design shops, production companies and freelancers.

Hermes Creative Awards is administered and judged by the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals (www.amcpros.com). The international organization consists of several thousand marketing, communication, advertising, public relations, media production and free-lance professionals. AMCP oversees awards and recognition programs, provides judges and rewards outstanding achievement and service to the
profession.

As part of its mission, AMCP fosters and supports the efforts of creative professionals who contribute their unique talents to public service and charitable organizations. Hermes entrants are not charged entry fees to enter work they produced pro bono. In addition, the efforts of generous marketing and communication professionals are acknowledged through grants and special recognition.

AMCP judges are industry professionals who look for companies and individuals whose talent exceeds a high standard of excellence and whose work serves as a benchmark for the industry. Winners were selected from 144 categories in seven forms of media and communication efforts- advertising, publications, marketing/branding, integrated marketing, public relations/communications, electronic media and pro bono.

Entergy recently chose hmc2 Advertising for a new campaign designed to impart facts about the role Vermont Yankee plays in Vermont’s energy and economic future. The campaign is designed to build awareness around nuclear power as a safe, clean and reliable energy source. An authentic representation of the people of Vermont Yankee, the “I am Vermont Yankee” campaign which launched on Dec. 17, 2009, enables employees to share their experience and knowledge while providing Vermonters an intelligent and impactful means for separating fact from fiction on a variety of topics surrounding nuclear power. Using strategically-crafted and placed marketing communications, including television, print, and interactive, the campaign will help inform Vermonters and their evaluation of nuclear energy.

In the dog-eat-dog world of online travel marketing, hmc2 has significantly moved the needle for Smugglers’ Notch Vermont, well-known as America’s Family Resort, and a 20 year client of the agency. Capitalizing on Smuggs’ iconic family brand, hmc2 launched a re-skinned website, creatively engineered to move the customer immediately through an intuitive, virtual vacation experience in the mission-critical first moments on the site. “We combined an ambitious research effort around customer behaviors online with our foresight in this market in order to come up with an unimpeachable platform for Smuggs. We’ve already seen a dramatic impact on their response rate,” said agency president Veronica Williams. The program also included new creative across an extensive array of collateral materials and online media units.

Great news! The results are in…and the goal has been achieved! Click-it-or-Ticket, the nationwide outreach campaign designed to encourage seat belt usage, was enacted in Vermont through the creative efforts of hmc2. The campaign, which ran in May and included both broadcast and interactive executions, resulted in 87.3% seat belt usage in the state, leading to an additional $3.7 million for the state’s transportation and public safety programs. Talk about ROI!
